Bushlanders Productions

bushlanders productions - swampyVisual artist Gavin Walker and musician Darren Adair formed their partnership and uniquely Australian 'Swampy and Bluey Show' in 1997 and have since been performing in and around Perth for children of all ages.

Whilst the show has been running for four years, Darren and Gavin have been working together since 1992 writing music, developing concepts and building characters for their show. The idea for the act was born out of Gavin's desire to write a children's book, focusing on education in the Australian environment. Key ideas that arose from this were children's safety and environmental preservation portrayed through musical entertainment for young children.

bushlanders productions - blueyIn 1994, Darren left Perth to play music and work in Japan for a year and a half. On his return, the desire to develop an act for children in Perth was strengthened. The pair were asked to perform at a party in 1996 and following the success of this performance, Darren and Gavin realised they could collaborate very spontaneously, appealing to a wide variety of audiences.

An assembly of characters was developed to form the Swampy and Bluey show, each one playing a very important role in the final performance. Keeping with the concept of environmental preservation, each puppet is hand made by Darren and Gavin from 90% recycled materials. The messages in the show are portrayed through the song and dance of the Australian Bush animals. However, the messages are simple and applicable to children throughout the world.

Simplicity and entertainment are important, to ensure the audience is captivated and the messages received.

bushlanders productions - kookieAudiences delight in the individual characters, Swampy and Bluey Reeds, Kookie the Kookaburra, C.Rocco.Dylus, Claudia the Crow and their friends as they sing, dance and play their own music. Through songs titled 'Endangered Species', 'Don't Talk to Strangers', 'Lost in the Bush', 'Clean up Cavalry' and many more, children and adults alike receive positive messages about their environment.

The Swampy and Bluey Show has been very well received by audiences in Perth, drawing large crowds for performances in Shopping Centres, Schools and many more places of family interest.

bushlanders productions - c. roccoTina Hatz, Marketing Manager at the Bentley Centre was delighted with recent performances at her Shopping Centre. She readily says, "They were a huge hit! The characters were really animated and kept the audience captivated. Shopping Centre tenants were very pleased with the show and received a lot of positive feedback from shoppers. We would love to have them back".

Similarly, visitors at the Perth Zoo enjoyed the show immensely and Darren and Gavin were delighted to see the kids get up and dance and sing along with Swampy and Bluey.

For Darren and Gavin, they love to entertain while spreading their messages and making a difference to as many communities as possible, in Australia and around the world. This unique Australian show provides the perfect combination of entertainment and education for children.

Wandering In The Bush

Welsh born performer Greg Hastings began his professional music career in 1976 with the founding of the Mucky Duck Bush Band in Western Australia. With the success of this group, Greg realised his talent for entertaining both adults and children.

The group was formed in response to a belief by the band members that Australians lacked knowledge about their cultural history and the Australian theme of the music was born from this.

In 1979 Greg left the Mucky Duck Bush Band to pursue a solo career. He travelled extensively overseas taking his music to New Zealand, the United States, Canada, England and through Europe.

wandering in the bush - greg hastings and kidsAfter returning to Australia for a short visit Greg left again in 1982 to travel through Asia. He visited Bali, Java, Singapore, Thailand, Nepal and India playing his music to gatherings of both adults and children.

On returning to Australia in 1983 Greg began playing in tourist resorts in the Whitsunday Islands to audiences mainly comprised of adults. It was not until 1987 when he was introduced to Aboriginal culture that Greg began to write songs for children. Whilst touring the Australian outback the concept for the Wandering in the Bush show was developed.

In 1996 this show, primarily for non-aboriginal children, began touring Australia, to very high acclaim. His performance includes songs and stories in seriousness and humour that capture the essence of the Australian Bush.

wandering in the bush - greg hastings with a smileWandering in the Bush is a fun, interactive show giving children an insight into Australia, it's animals and Aboriginal culture. With songs titled 'Walking in the Bush', 'Family of Kangaroos', ' Bush Calls' and 'I love the Bush' children learn about different aspects of life in outback Australia. The audience is encouraged to sing along with Greg and actions to accompany the songs are taught to the children at the beginning of the show. Didgeridoo music is an integral part of the Wandering in the Bush show and the audience is given an opportunity to learn and practice some basic didgeridoo playing both in the show and in workshops given after the show.

The experience Greg has acquired travelling the world gives him the ability to develop a rapport with any audience and create a fun, friendly atmosphere at his shows. Greg Hastings captivates children of all ages and nationalities and his Wandering in the Bush show is an outstanding interactive show for children.
